Visit the ancient olive trees in an ancient farmhouse with tasting of virgin and extra virgin olive oil
Discover the Masseria Brancati, its ancient olive trees, its museum and the roman underground oil mill
Echi di Puglia offers you an excursion among the thousand year old olive trees , symbol of the Puglia region. A jump in the ancient peasant life, in the noble art of cultivating the land.
The ancient Masseria Brancati, from generation to generation tells its own tradition of apulian olive oil, from the olive harvest, through the milling to the extraction of the yellow gold, all strictly within its own fortified walls. To protect one's treasure from foreign invasions or from raids by local looters, an ancient sighting tower rises.
The olive trees rise majestically as far as the eye can see in the countryside, like real sculptures designed over thousands of years. All strictly labeled and carefully preserved by the wise hands of those who live in these lands.
Life inside the farm was lively, with an average of three to four families living there. The children roamed through the farmyard between the hens and the mules while the adult farmers cultivated the vegetable garden , the citrus grove and a small orchard .
There is also a modest eighteenth-century church, with an altar, strictly in Baroque style , made with Lecce stone, a poor, marbled stone.
A museum is the setting for this splendid view of the Puglia that it was. Inside ancient Messapian presses , of pre-Roman age, for the pressing of the olives, an underground oil mill and another more recent still extraordinarily in operation.
The tour ends with a taste of virgin and extra virgin olive oils produced by the farm.
